This past Saturday I had the good fortune of being hired to photograph a local cyclocross bike race. I've photographed a number of bike races, including time trials, but never a cyclocross race, so I was pretty excited about the opportunity. The race was organized by the Annapolis Bicycle Racing Team (ABRT), Parvilla Cycles, and the Anne Arundel County Parks & Recreation department, with the later being critical as the race was conducted on a county park in Edgewater, South River Farms Park.
Over 300 competitors showed up, representing a wide spectrum of ages, with races lasting about 45 minutes, grouped according to skill level, I was confronted with eight hours of non-stop action. The 2.5km course was not only challenging for the biker riders, who had to ride through fields, forests, mountains, and man-made obstacles, but for me as well, as I moved around the course all day to get the best shots given the ever changing light. It was an awesome day of shooting!
The complete album featuring racing shots from the entire day can be view here: https://tedmorganphotography.zenfolio.com/p503176000
